Portland State Chamber Choir

Dear Friends,

As most of you know, last Summer The Portland State Chamber Choir became the first American choir ever to win the prestigious Seghizzi International Competition for Choral Singing in Gorizia, Italy! As a result of our victory, the Chamber Choir has been invited to compete at a smaller, more select competition in Tolosa, Spain in October, 2014, and it is quite an invitation. The Tolosa Competition is covering all of our expenses while in Spain not only during the competition, but for several days before where they will plan concerts for us in some of the finest venues in the country. All we need is the plane tickets.

International travel is one of the most enriching and rewarding experiences we can provide for a University student This particular trip however, combines the pure travel experience of our students visiting one of the most important cultural and historic centers of the world with the chance for them to hear some of the best amateur choirs from around the world, perform and compete on a world stage, and meet and interact with students and musicians from over a dozen other countries. I know the students who toured with Bruce would agree that these types of opportunities in life are very rare, unforgettable and often life-changing.

Only the airfare from Portland to Spain is up to us: roughly $1,200 per singer.  As a friend of music, Portland State University, and the Portland State Chamber Choir, we are asking you to please help us get to Spain. We hope you will consider making a donation, or even sponsoring one singer.

I continue to believe that now more than ever, the students of the Chamber Choir can serve as fantastic ambassadors for music, for our University, our amazing city of Portland, and maybe even America as a whole. This is an opportunity to truly provide a student with a transformational college experience and help continue to grow PSU’s legacy of excellence in choral performance. Thank you for your consideration and ongoing support, and please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Sincerely,

Dr. Ethan Sperry
